Lost and Found

The Ateneo Blue Repertory prides itself with the recognition of being the country’s most prestigious college musical theater organization to date. It is an organization composed of the youth and our productions  are catered to the youth. Every year, they offer a line-up of entertaining musicals, all professionally executed to cater to the increasing demand for quality theater shows in the Philippines.

These are just some of their acclaimed and well-known plays:

If you'll remember, I shared to you one of their musical last February, it's Toilet: The Musical. So sad that I wasn't able to watch it because of my so busy schedule in school, but I heard very good feedbacks from my high school friends who watched it.

The theme for blueREP’s 23rd season is Lost and Found. Although our shows tackle a wide range of issues and conflicts, they are all linked by our central theme for this season: Lost and Found. From a bunch of kids discovering their identities, to noble knights searching for The Holy Grail, to a community of people finding home, this season places emphasis on success and the failures that temper them.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is about six quirky students who are set on winning the titular competition. The Bee plays in real time, with guest spellers from the audience getting the opportunity to compete onstage alongside the actors. With music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin, this musical comedy deals with competition, ambition, and the difficulties of growing up.

Catch blueREP’s season premiere from July 16 - August 2 at Gonzaga Fine Arts Theatre.

Based on Monty Python’s Spamalot, Some Knights is a humorous take on the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. In the musical, the knights are tasked by God himself to find the missing Holy Grail. Along the way they are met by hilarious obstacles, impossible challenges, and outrageous characters. With a riotous score and book by Eric Idle, this irreverent tribute to British history and the Broadway musical will inspire audience members to sing, dance, and always look on the bright side of life.

Some Knights will be running from September 17-27 at Rizal Mini Theater.

In The Heights explores life in the small, Latin-American community of Washington Heights at the tip of Manhattan Island. Led by bodega-owner, Usnavi, the neighborhood is home to many diverse characters. Together, they go through the many triumphs and trials that life brings them, from losing loved ones to winning the lottery. With a revolutionary score by Lin Manuel-Miranda that successfully fuses hip-hop, and Latin music with the Broadway sound, In The Heights is about community, family, and what home means to all of us.

End the season with blueREP on February 4-21 at Rizal Mini Theatre.

Toilet: The Musical

If you are going to ask me what part of my school life is the most memorable, my answer would be my four years in high school. In those years, I started to mature and build my own personality. I somewhat gained my freedom, in terms of going out with friends, but not financially. Haha. In high school, I started to decide on my own, though sometimes, I mean most of the time, I still ask for my parents’ advices. During those years, I made the greatest mistake I’ve ever done (so far), fell in love and fell out of love (twice!), had my first “serious” relationship, gained and lost friends, and experienced my other “first’s”.

Many of us consider high school to be the epitome of shallow problems, pimples, crushes, and popularity, as well as a vast collection of other hormone-driven dilemmas. This, of course, is just the stuff spoken of in the outside world– in the privacy of one’s own thoughts; however, is where deeper and darker problems are kept secret.

In line with blueREP’s 22nd theme, “Magkano Mabuhay?”, Ateneo Blue Repertory, the foremost college musical theatre organization of the Ateneo de Manila University, closes the season with the highly anticipated original production, Toilet: The Musical. 

Toilet: The Musical is a story about the inevitable painful experiences one must go through in high school in order to ‘grow up’.

Am I ready?

Where do I go from here?

Questions that all uncertain adolescents seem to know too well, especially when life seems like it’s being flushed down the drain.

This is the theme of Ateneo Blue Repertory’s new original musical, Toilet: The Musical.

Toilet: The Musical leads its audience on a journey into the lives of eight seemingly ordinary students, each with a story to share and a secret to disclose within the cold confines of the toilet walls. It discourses upon grim territory close to home – suicide, unrequited love, religious disparity, bulimia, sexuality, and fear of what the future holds - yet never forgetting to show the light at the end of the tunnel, and the struggle to remember that there are no real endings, just new beginnings.

Back from the World Championship of the Performing Arts with three silver medals and one gold, up-and-coming musical director and blueREP alumnus, Ejay Yatco, returns with Toilet: The Musical, an original production that is set to be the most talked-about show of the year. 

Getting to know the people behind this musical...

Ejay Yatco is nominated by Broadway World Philippines as the best Musical Director for Sa Wakas: The Sugarfree Musical, blueREP’s Spring Awakening, Company Call and Little Shop of Horrors, and a vocal coach of 13 The Musical.

Bym Buhain is a cast member of 4th Wall’s Rivalry: The Ateneo-La Salle Musical and Repertory Philippines’ Seussical. He is also a head stage manager of Sa Wakas: The Sugarfree Musical.

Jim Ferrer is a choreographer, asst. Director and cast of Company Call: blueREP at 20. He is also a choreographer of Ateneo Blue Repertory’s Rock and Rule, Black Prom and Summer Camp.

Miyo Sta. Maria is a Loyola Schools Awardee for the Arts for Playwriting and Lighting Design. He also become the lighting designer for blueREP’s 13 the Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Company Call, Upstart Productions’ Breakup and Breakdowns and PoleCats Stellar Year 3.

Trency Cagaan-an became part of Dulaang UP’s Mary Stuart and Tanghalang Pilipino’s Virgin Lab Fest, a graduate from the Philippine School of Interior Design with honors. He is also the set designer for blueREP’s Spring Awakening.

My 1st Speed Dating Experience (Not really?)

Last Saturday, January 4, I got the chance to join Peekawoo’s Sunset Roofdeck Party. This is the first event I covered for this year. It was held at The Beacon Tower in Makati City. The venue is perfect for a sunset party. You can really see the beautiful sunset and the Makati City at night.

Peekawoo is a speed dating website, chat roulette and game all in one. This is a website made by girls where girls can feel safe to chat with guys across the globe.

The event started with some pica-pica (I think the organizers love spicy foods) and drinks. Sad to say, there is no BBQs. LOL. I was able to chat with some of the guests and asked them why they joined the mixer. Some said that a friend asked them to do so, some joined because of curiosity and some are there because they are friends of the organizers.


The program started at around 7 pm (which is so late compared to what they announced in the website). The girls were gathered in a certain area.

Ms. Kassy asked the girls to pick three cards. Each card contains a question. Those cards will be our guide in starting a conversation with the guys.

Here’s what I got:

So unlike the usual speed dating, girls are the ones who move on rounds to meet the guys seated on the carpet (I ‘m not sure if it’s a carpet). For me, as a girl, I don’t want this kind of set-up. I’m shy to be the one who will go and start a conversation with a guy. Just an opinion.

At first, I am hesitant to join the speed dating; I just want to cover the event. FYI, this is my first speed dating event ever! But as what the girls I met there say, I must join and have the first hand experience. So that’s it, I tried to talk to a guy. But I’m somewhat disappointed because he’s drunk to talk with me. Haha. Good thing I got a phone call, so I bid goodbye and left him. Haha, meanie. And I stopped doing my round.

Since I failed to have my own experience, I just interviewed the girls there.

One said that it’s fun talking with the drunken guys (which I don’t enjoy), one feel the same way as I am.

Overall, I still enjoy the event. I gained new friends. I was able to chat with other people and learned a lot from them. I saw a cute guy, but wasn’t able to talk with him, maybe in the next Peekawoo event?

I know it is difficult to organize this event but I still look forward to a more organized one. :)

I saw in their site that they’re cooking’ something this February, a Spark’s Fair. Let's see if there's a spark in there! :)

The Music of the Night

I'm so sorry, this is a super duper ultra mega late post :(

My CD-ROM is not working so I need to ask my friend to copy the files from the cd to my flashdrive. #bloggerproblems

Oh well, back to work, as I have said in our fb page, last September 8, I got invited for The Angelos Bloggers Appreciation Night. It was held at No Other Bar in Metrowalk.

The place is very cozy, relaxing. It's different from what Metrowalk should be.

I would recommend the place for people who want a night of relaxation with friends.

Honestly, I was not really familiar with the group so I searched them the internet

and found out they are popular in other countries, they are even recognized as the Asia's answer to Il Divo.

I love classical music, I'm a fan of operas, especially The Phantom Of The Opera.

You want me to sing my fave song there?

Oh no, hahaha, I don't want Yolanda to go back. Geez!

I should ask The Angelos first to teach me how to sing. :D

The Angelos is a classical-pop tenor group composed of young, vibrant and good-looking Filipino artists.

The three guys are all expert in music. I think they all have formal education in music.

George Sison-Tagle is the one who started the group way back in 2007. Then there was an audition and he met John Louie Abaigar, a contract talent of GMA 7 for 3 years,

and Rei Paolo Libiran, a voice major in Conservatory of Music (CEU).

"The Angelos have been travelling and performing all over the world (with standing ovations) and have awed their audience with their “music from the heart”, their repertoire consist of 6 different languages ( Filipino, English, Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Malay), genres that cross-over from pop/rock to classical. Some of their notable performances include the 77th birthday concert for former US President Jimmy Carter, guest performer at the concert of Lani Misalucha in Las Vegas, back-to-back concerts with world-renowned pianist David Osborne, front act for singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop in San Francisco,Texas (Mc Allen,Houston, Dallas), at the World Expo, at the 10th anniversary of Macau, two concerts in the River Rock Show Theater in Vancouver, Canada, Resorts World Genting, Malaysia, Singapore-Marina Bay Sands Convention Center, Hong Kong Eton Group & Dragon Center, and many others."

Classical music may be boring to some but you will really see the quality of the singer's voice.

Classical music is highly appreciated in other countries.

It's the highest genre, maybe?

The Angelos want to promote the classical music in the Philippines.

What I like about this group is that they are able to transform RnB songs to a classical one.

And it is even more beautiful that the original.

(That's only my opinion.)

Whenever they sing in the event, I can feel goosebumps.

I don't know how and where did they get the high notes.

They really amaze me. :)

The biggest Business to Blogger networking event, Blogapalooza, is back!

And since we just started blogging this year,

it's my first time to attend this event.

For a first timer like me, I felt really excited.

I researched about Blogapalooza, yes, I read some blog posts.

I found out that this is really indeed the one of the most awaited event of bloggers.

This is when businesses meet the people who influences the public through blogs.

Blogapalooza is brought to us by WhenInManila.com and OurAwesomePlanet.com.

Blogapalooza 2013 happened last Saturday, November 16, at SM Aura SMX Convention Center Hall 1.

It started at 11am and ended at 9pm.

I personally want to go there at 11am (thinking that there will be more freebies LOL)

but unfortunately, I have a class at 11am - 2 pm, and I cannot skip that class.

(I'm currently in my 5th year, the most crucial sem of a BSA student,

so I'm sure that you understand me haha.)
